Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Undelete)

This page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in two cases. The first case is restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions (G6) or stale Articles for creation drafts (G13)), or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. In the second use case, this page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be "userfied", i.e., restored as a draft or emailed to you; this way, the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). Be clear as to which namespace is intended, when requesting the restoration of a deleted article.

This means that content deleted after discussion – through deletion processes – may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process but through deletion review instead. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided.

    Do not request that pages or media deleted under speedy deletion criteria F7, F9, F11, U5, A7, A9, A11, G3, G4, G10, G11 or G12 be undeleted here.

    Instructions for special cases:

Hi, I'm Jeremiah Msaziri, and I would like to request the undeletion of this draft deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page so that I can make edits to it. Thank you. Jeremiah Msaziri (talk) 11:12, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeremiah Msaziri: Done – as a draft that was deleted under CSD G13, the page has been restored upon request. However, the draft namespace, though it is intended to provide some breathing room to create and develop a page without the time pressure of immediate review, is not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the article mainspace. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion and then submit it for review—at the least, prior to another six months elapsing. When you are ready, a review can be requested by placing this code at the top of the page and then saving: {{subst:submit}}. UtherSRG (talk) 11:39, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    TJ Norris

    [edit]

I discovered this morning that the Wikipedia page that bears my name and reputation has been inadvertently deleted. The page has been in place for over two decades. As a living artist with a daily practice, international following and extensive resume I'm concerned that this choice was made inadvertently, without any knowledge of my career and request that it be restored. All one needs to do is to check my webpage, Vimeo page, CV, film festival activity, exhibition history (active since 1990), Discogs page where I have contributed countless sound artists with cover art, liner notes, three decades of music journalism - for some notable press. I do not feel the need to have to prove myself at this stage in my career, though I ask that you look closely into the person/s who deleted my page - perhaps it is targeted because of my affiliation with the LGBTQ community? Perhaps its something else? Please investigate and restore my page. Thank you. —TJ Norris (talk) 16:49, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@TJ Norris: Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. UtherSRGI've reached out to Randykitty regarding this after seeing some of the comments from folks who only made very selective references to my work, which is far more extensive than the research they did to make such a claim to remove the Wiki page under my name. TJ Norris (talk) 21:56, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think the subject of an article should be trying to dictate whether it meets notability for inclusion in Wikipedia. TJ Norris, please review Wikipedia:Notability (people) and Wikipedia:Autobiography. The arguments by editors in that discussion were based on our site's policies. While I understand you have a strong opinion about this, there are policies and guidelines that need to be met to warrant an article be retained or deleted. @TakuyaMurata: Declined pending further information. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but no edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission. Draft space is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. We may be willing to restore it again, but only if you provide a definite assurance that you actually intend to work on it and provide a short description of what you intend to do to improve it to meet our policies and guidelines. Please advise. UtherSRG (talk) 10:54, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, there was no such pledge, and the draft is about a notable toric so there shouldn’t be any hosting issue. I don’t know when I will be working on the draft, but meantime, the draft can and should be being worked on by the community. (Note this draft is not my draft.) —- Taku (talk) 11:40, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The draft was previously restored and ignored. It can sit in the deleted bin until you are ready to work on it. At which point, you can request restoration. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:15, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The draft can be worked on by anyone (not necessarily by me) and there is no need to keep it deleted. Also, as a rule, I don’t think you are allowed to deny the undeletion of a draft deleted by G13; especially when there was no "pledge" that you claimed I made. —- Taku (talk) 12:30, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't claim you made the pledge. I merely claimed the pledge was made. A restoration request is such a pledge. This is actually standard procedure: when a draft is restored but unworked, we ask if the new requestor is ready to work it immediately. If so, we restore; if not, we move on. You are not ready, so I am moving on. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:35, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And, in fact, Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion/Archive_399#Draft:Cartwright's_theorem it was you who requested it. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:38, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And here is the full request “This seems to be a notable topic (according to a quick Google search I just did). The theorem is already mentioned in Mary Cartwright. So, if the draft is short, maybe it can be merged into it” so like I said, there was no pledge contrary to your claim. In any case, can you show some community consensus like an rfc that “the new requestor is ready to work it immediately. If so, we restore; if not, we move on”. Maybe that’s a new consensus I am not aware of. If there was no such rfc, it could mean you’re exceeding your authority as an admin. (And a rouge admin is a big problem you know.) —- Taku (talk) 12:46, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will ask again: Are you ready to do the work right now? - UtherSRG (talk) 12:49, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Meaning you now admit there was no pledge and that you’re exceeding your authority as an admin!? Wow. Anyway, I cannot quite make a firm promise: I work in Wikipedia whenever I can find time and I don’t know ahead of time whether I will have free time or not. Let me put this way: i definitely have an intention to work on drafts this one or any other drafts. But I don’t have any fixed schedule of what and when to work on them. Maybe that’s not good enough for you but like we discussed, I don’t think it’s up to you to decide good enough or not. —- Taku (talk) 13:03, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TakuyaMurata: It is expressly within the authority of an administrator to decline to undelete a draft that has previously been undeleted pursuant to a request on this board, and was not subsequently worked on. I would also note that the draft was just two lines, and that two mathematician Wikipedians (David Eppstein and Michael Hardy) weighed in on the draft and found it to utterly lacking and incorrect, meaning that you would probably be better off starting a new draft from scratch. BD2412 T 14:13, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, an admin has the authority to decline but surely they should not do so with bogus reasons, correct? Anyway we are getting clearly off-track. I do remember the draft had an issue and I asked for the undeletion so I can see what that issue. Yes, I can start from the scratch but in that case, it can be helpful for me to be able to see the deleted content. Why is it important to keep the deleted content hidden? Basically I’m asking more for access to deleted content rather than restoring the draft. Isn’t it cheap just to undelete even if the deleted content couldn’t be used at all (the undeletion can clarify what part of the old content can be used if at all). I don’t think starting from scratch is fine but starting from the old draft isn’t allowed makes much logical sense. —- Taku (talk) 07:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
..if the draft is short, maybe it can be merged into it. So what happened, after it was restored? The concern here is that undeletion requests take up admin time and effort (it is voluntary, sure, just as everything else on wikipedia is), and when requestors get a draft undeleted, ignore it once they have got it restored, and come back again after it's deleted for being ignored, and give no explanation at all, it is seen as poor use of an admin-owned workflow. Jay 💬 08:46, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In this particular case, the merger wasn’t a good option as it turned out. In general, I can see that if the number of repeated undeletions is very high, then it can be a maintenance problem (which is actually an argument for not deleting them in the first place but let’s leave that). That’s part of the reasons why I try not to make too many undeletion requests; only a few per month in average. Also, I have a very good track record of working with drafts and so I don’t think my requests are a waste of time. Finally, in the above there is a request to start from scratch but it is usually less time consuming to start from old ones. Yes, the draft had a problem but it is actually more efficient to fix the issue than start writing from nothing (like for example, some formulas or links can be reused.) In short, there isn’t much a strong argument to keep the deleted content hidden from editors like me. —- Taku (talk) 11:40, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We make the restoration decisions based on the draft, not on the requestor. This gives us something objective and easily quantifiable (what was the state of the draft when deleted? was the draft undeleted previously?) vs subjective and difficult to quantify (good track record). This isn't about you. It's about standards and practices. And if you haven't understood yet, about 90% of the initial request responses we give are templated responses that are based on those objective data points. If the draft was G13'd but was previously declined at AFC review, we give one particular response. If the draft was (hard) deleted at AFD we give another. If the draft had previously be restored and then not worked on, we give yet another. And yes, that particular templated response includes the word "pledge". Every request for restoring a draft so that it can be worked on is a pledge to work on that draft in some way (whether it be to improve the draft so that it can be an article, or using the contents of the draft to merge into an existing article); restoring a draft just for the sake of having it available is not a valid restoration request. UtherSRG (talk) 11:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think I get: the process is automated. But some particular requests do require somehow less automated responses, I think. A draft like this is a good example. I am one of few editors who work on drafts not necessarily started by themselves. For those, “restoring a draft just for the sake of having it available” should be a valid restoration request for the reason I already explained above (and should have the community support for it). If it is fine to start from scratch, why is it necessary deny the restoration of an old draft. Yes, admin times are valuable but so are the times for some of very productive editors like me. It’s simply more convenient and productive for me to be able to access deleted content. Yes, that’s not a typical undeletion request, but some requests are atypical. And I think my atypical request aren’t too numerous to handle in less automated fashions. And I intentionally don’t use a standard template to indicate the requests are atypical ones from atypical editors. That is, if it becomes clear that a standard response is not appropriate, can you give some more nuanced responses in some rare occupations? I think that should be quite possible; BUT if not possible, I still understand it (although in such a case, I would strongly believe the responses would be wrong like here right now). I mean: you do agree that it’s quite bizarre that it’s fine to start from scratch but not from an old draft, right? —- Taku (talk) 12:15, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No. restoring a draft just for the sake of having it available is contrary to the point of WP:CSD#G13. - UtherSRG (talk) 16:02, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I should have said with "an intention to work on the draft or content in the draft" (and I repeatedly expressed my intention to work on the draft content). According to G13, an admit should give access to G13-deleted content when the editor is intereted in working on it. There is no policy or something else like rfc justifying denying the access. -- Taku (talk) 08:59, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I'm merely interested in seeing the deleted content (to work on a draft). So, if you can just copy-and-paste the deleted content at some place, that would be enough. (Or even just e-mail it to me.) -- Taku (talk) 09:37, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done. ..if the number of repeated undeletions is very high, then it can be a maintenance problem - not at all, there are plenty of admins, the load gets distributed. We have cases of the same editor making multiple requests in a single day, and getting the pages restored. If an editor can work in parallel on multiple pages, no admin should stop them. In this particular case, I had restored the draft requested just 3 minutes prior (Geometrization in dimension four), then looked at Cartwright's theorem, and left it to another admin to undelete. I understood there was no way you would have received a 1-month advance warning notification before deletion (The bot sends it only to the draft creator, and does it only once). It's unfair to an editor who is not the draft creator, but it only goes to show a non-creator who gets a draft restored has to be more diligent to beat the G13 process! I wrote to Liz, but I assume she forgot.

    Thanks, Mavreju (talk) 08:26, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mavreju: Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Balkan Spring, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, Liz (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. UtherSRG (talk) 11:23, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft:Chanda

    [edit]

This small Indian sultinate that existed for a short period of time before it was gobbled up by its bigger neighbors still had some interesting history. I have a lot of sources and I request that it be moved back into draftspace so I can work on it or it can be moved into my sandbox. Thank you. DotesConks (talk) 05:46, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - there is no deleted article titled "Chanda". The page history of Chanda does have attempts by a now-blocked editor to add content about the clan. The same editor did create the draft that had one edit and two sentences. You may start a fresh draft. Jay 💬 07:23, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Raseshwari Devi Ji

    [edit]

Soft deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Raseshwari Devi Ji. I'm reaching out to kindly ask for the undeletion of the article "Raseshwari Devi Ji." I truly believe it meets the notability guidelines and has room for enhancement based on credible sources. It seems that the earlier deletion discussion might have missed some trustworthy and independent coverage that highlights the subject's importance. I'm ready to enhance the article with accurate citations and make sure it complies with Wikipedia’s content policies, including neutrality and verifiability. —NehaSharmapvt (talk) 11:06, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@NehaSharmapvt: Done – as a contested soft deletion, the article has been restored upon request.
However, as this would be eligible for deletion immediately upon its restoration, I have chosen to instead draftify it as Draft:Raseshwari Devi Ji. This will provide you the time and space to address the issue(s) raised in the deletion discussion. When you have done so, please do not move this into main article space yourself, but instead submit it for further review. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:28, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello,

I am respectfully requesting the undeletion of my Wikipedia page. I have been a professional journalist since 1996, with decades of published work across respected media. The article was deleted recently, apparently due to some outdated or broken references.

While I understand the importance of verifiability and working sources, I’d like to point out:

That only 4 out of the 10 references were broken. Some of the links refer me as a collaborator and the person who checked it told this was not a trusted source? How come my name in a companys webpage is a fraud? Please, you have to be more respectul. I've had my Wikipedia page since 2016.

These links were old and likely became inactive due to natural web decay, which is a common issue, especially with media content from the early internet era whick, by the way, you don't accept as source (youtube videos, my name in pictures or billboards).

The existence of a few broken links should not invalidate the person’s notability or my work, especially when there are still functioning sources and additional references can be provided - you didn't even ask for that, just simply some guy deleted it!

Reliable sources can often be archived (via the Wayback Machine), and I'm willing to assist in recovering or replacing broken citations.

I kindly ask that the article be restored so that I (or another editor) may improve it with updated links and clearer referencing. Deleting it outright without offering that chance feels disproportionate and unfair to the scope of my career. Not only TV Hosts are valuable, this sems something influencer like.

Thank you for considering this request.

    Best regards, Daniela Azevedo

Not done - I could not find a deleted page with the title - Daniela Azevedo. Are you sure it was in the English Wikipedia? Jay 💬 14:13, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Avado Learning

    [edit]
    Request to undelete Draft:Avado Learning

    Hello,

I would like to request undeletion of the page Draft:Avado Learning. I am preparing a fully rewritten and neutral draft, which I believe now complies with Wikipedia’s guidelines on neutrality, notability, and reliable sourcing.

The previous version may have been deleted for promotional tone (G11), but the new version has been carefully revised and includes:

    - Independent third-party references from Imperial College London, CIPD, and Great Place to Work. - Verified coverage of key developments, including a long-standing partnership with CIPD. - Factual, balanced language with no marketing language.

The updated draft is ready and includes <ref>-formatted citations and properly structured encyclopaedic content. I welcome community input to further improve it.

Thank you for your time and consideration.— Preceding unsigned comment added by EdTechEditorUK (talkcontribs)
